It offers interpretive exhibits, informative programs, and the exploration of an urban forest. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, and visiting this nature center is free of charge. However, their programs come with a fee. There are many ways to enjoy it, and we’ll mention a few of them.
Hiking Trails
If you love hiking, you will be delighted to hear that you can choose from three hiking trails. Depending on your preferences, you can opt for shorter or longer trails. These trails are great local hidden gems, mostly following a creek, and there’s even a waterfall. They give you a chance to enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife. There’s some elevation, but just enough to make hiking a bit challenging. Many Rockville residents go hiking on these trails to relax and spend some time in nature.
Outside the Center
If you take your kids to this center, you should know that there’s a little play area outside where your kids can have fun. This play area has a small kitchen and instruments, and young kids love playing there. There’s also a breathtaking butterfly garden around the center and other gardens where you can spend your free time.
Keep in mind that Croydon Creek Nature Center is located on the same property as a historic Glenview Mansion. Since the mansion is only half a mile away, you can visit it and walk through the attractive gardens. If you drive here, remember that parking is free.
Inside the Center
Once you are inside the center, you will see a small gift shop with plenty of things to choose from. There’s a wide variety of adorable gifts you can buy for your loved ones or yourself to have something to remember visiting this center by.
The center offers classrooms, animal exhibits, and lots of learning activities to enhance and promote the appreciation, understanding, and knowledge of natural resources. When it comes to exhibits, this center has snakes, turtles, and birds. You can see a huge turtle and the cutest little owl. There’s also a nice cross-cut hive that gives you a chance to watch the bees up close. Many people find it interesting to see how bees behave, simply trying to find the queen.
The center also occasionally offers special events for children. There’s a wide variety to choose from when it comes to programs, including Beekeeper Q & A, Fall Bird Walk, Family Nature Hike, Growing Sustainable Together, Little Explorers, Mini-Creep, Naturally Creative, and more.
